Pressure Equalising Valves

In order to ensure that your steam shower, whirlpool bath or shower cabin offers you a long and trouble free service it is important to get the installation correct. One of the main requirements for your purchase is an appropriate water supply.

The water supply to your product must be BALANCED. This means that the water to your shower is the same pressure on both the hot and the cold water supplies. This enables the Thermostat in your shower to provide a long and accurate service life. Failure to have balanced water pressures provided to your shower WILL damage the thermostat and invalidate its warranty.

Pressure Equalising ValveIf you plan to use a Twin Impellor Pump to provide water then you do NOT need to fit a Pressure Equalising (P.E.V). However if you have a single impellor pump, Combi Boiler or a mains pressure hot water cylinder for example you WILL need a P.E.V.

If you have any doubt about your needs, please speak to your plumber or call us on 01423 522 222

COMBINATION/COMBI BOILER
Typically if you have a Combi Boiler this will provide a constant pressure on the hot water, but your cold water will be distributed around your property direct from the mains.  If a tap/washing machine/dishwasher etc in the property is turned on whilst you use the shower this will change the water pressure/s. Cold water from the mains can also be of variable pressure during the day as demand for water peaks and falls under consumer demand.

ABOUT PRESSURE EQUALISING VALUES (P.E.V.'s)
The pressure equalising valve is designed to supply both hot and cold water from its outlet at equal pressures, regardless of any fluctuations in the supply up to the valve. Balancing of water pressure by the PEV is achieved by of a piston and diaphragm, which automatically adjusts the higher pressure down to that of the lower pressure, resulting in equal (balanced) water pressures.

PEVs are made from very robust and compact parts. They are able to operate at pressures from 0.3 bar to 10 bar and typically offer a long and maintenance free service life.

Pressure equalising valves are able to be retro fitted and can be used in-conjunction with most situations were balanced water pressure is required.

PEVs can be fitted either horizontally or vertically and at any distance from your shower - PROVIDED IT SUPPLIED ONLY ONE OUTLET (Shower).
Ideally the PEV should be sited where it is accessible for cleaning and/or maintenance, would this be necessary.

The valve must be fitted in accordance with the correct direction of flow as indicated by the arrows on the PEV, but the hot and cold water can be connected to either input.

It is strongly recommended that a filter is fitted two the inlets to obtain maximum benefit and avoid damaging the valve with debris.
